Lesson 3:

Choosing Your First Business Category

Introduction

Now that you have registered, set up your TC Connect app and started learning about the products, the next question is:

“Where do I start?”

With so many products available, it can be tempting to try to learn and promote everything at once.

You don't have to.

A better approach is to choose a product category that suits you, learn it well, and gradually expand your knowledge as your business grows.

Remember:

You don't need to sell everything. Start with something you understand, enjoy and can confidently share with others.

2. Don't Try to Learn Everything at Once

Looking at all these categories can feel overwhelming.

You might think:

“Where am I even supposed to start?”

The answer is simple:

Start with one category.

You can learn about the other categories later.

Your first objective isn't to become an expert on the entire TC Direct catalogue. Your objective is to become knowledgeable and confident about a small selection of products.

3. Start With What Interests You

Ask yourself:

Which products do I personally enjoy?

Which products do I already understand?

Which products would I be comfortable talking about?

Which products do people around me commonly use?

  Which category fits my lifestyle?

Which products would I genuinely recommend based on their intended use and official information?

For example, if you enjoy fashion, you might naturally be drawn towards FASHION.

If you enjoy cooking and organising your home, HOME might be a good starting point.

If you are interested in fragrances, you might choose FRAGRANCE.

If skincare interests you, you might explore PERSONAL CARE or the BEAUTY RANGE.

The important thing is to choose something that feels natural to you.

4. Think About the People Around You

Your choice doesn't have to be based only on your own interests.

Think about the people you already interact with.

Ask yourself:

What do people around me need or regularly buy?

For example:

Families may be interested in HOME, FOOD or CLEANING products.

People interested in fashion may be interested in FASHION.

People interested in beauty may be interested in BEAUTY, PERSONAL CARE or FRAGRANCE.

People looking for home essentials may be interested in HOME or LINEN.

This doesn't mean you should assume that someone will buy.

Instead, it helps you identify conversations you can start.

5. Choose a Starting Category

Once you've explored the catalogue, choose one category to focus on initially.

You might say:

“For the next few weeks, I'm going to focus on learning the HOME category.”

Or:

“I'm going to start by learning about FRAGRANCE because it interests me.”

This gives you direction.

You can still purchase or learn about products from other categories when appropriate. Your focus simply prevents you from trying to learn everything simultaneously.

6. Choose a Few Products Within Your Category

After choosing a category, don't try to learn every product within it.

Choose a few products to begin with.

For each product, learn:

□  The product name

□  What it is

□  Its intended use

□  Available sizes or variations

□  The current price

□  How customers can order

□  Important product information

□  Who might be interested in it

□  How to use it, where applicable

Use the latest TC Direct catalogue and price list as your reference because product availability, prices and promotions can change.

7. Experience Products Where Practical

As discussed in Lesson 2, personal experience can make it easier to talk naturally about a product.

Where practical, choose products you can personally use.

Then you can talk about your genuine experience while making it clear that your experience is your experience and may not be the same for everyone.

Avoid exaggerating your results or making promises to customers.

Your goal is to build trust, not simply make a sale.

8. Become the Person People Can Ask

As you learn your chosen category, you can gradually become more knowledgeable about it.

Imagine someone asking:

“Do you have anything for this?”

Instead of feeling lost among hundreds of products, you can confidently say:

“Let me show you what we have in that category.”

That's one of the benefits of starting with a focused range.

Learn a little deeper instead of learning everything superficially.

9. You Can Expand Later

Choosing one category doesn't mean you're permanently restricted to it.

As your confidence grows, you can explore additional categories.

For example:

Start: HOME

Expand: FOOD

Expand: CLEANING

Expand: PERSONAL CARE

Explore: Other categories

Your business can grow with your knowledge.

Your Category Selection Exercise

Before moving to Lesson 4, choose your starting category.

My Starting Category

The category I am most interested in is:

Why did I choose it?

Three products I want to learn first:

1. ____________________________

2. ____________________________

3. ____________________________

People I could potentially introduce these products to:

Lesson Takeaway

You don't need to know everything to get started.

With HOME, ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES, LINEN, CLEANING, HEALTH, FOOD, FRAGRANCE, BEAUTY, FASHION, PERSONAL CARE, and WIGS & PONYTAILS, there are many areas to explore.

Don't let the variety overwhelm you.

Choose a category. Learn it. Experience the products where practical. Share what you know. Listen to your customers. Then expand.

Start narrow 》》Learn deeply 》》 Grow gradually.

Your next step is not to become an expert in every TC Direct product.

Your next step is to become confident in a few products and start meaningful conversations about them.
